Nowadays, olive oil is sold in prepackaged containers, usually made of plastic or glass, with a maximum capacity of 5 liters. This method of sale ensures compliance with hygiene, quality, and food preservation regulations.
In the past, olive oil was sold in grocery stores and food shops using measuring dispensers equipped with graduated glass containers. These containers allowed customers to purchase the desired amount of olive oil by pouring it directly into their containers brought from home. This method of sale was more common and sustainable, as it reduced packaging use and allowed consumers to avoid waste.

In the same shops, it was also possible to purchase seed oils, suitable for various purposes. To inform customers about the different varieties of oil available, shopkeepers were required to display signs outside the store, indicating the types of oil for sale. This way, customers could easily identify the available options and choose the oil most suitable for their needs.
However, with the introduction of stricter regulations regarding packaging, measuring dispensers are no longer authorized for the sale of oils. Therefore, olive oil and seed oils are now sold exclusively in prepackaged containers, ensuring compliance with the hygiene and quality standards imposed by health authorities and food sector control agencies.
